I’m sure you’ve seen or heard of local rail companies hosting train rides with Santa or Polar Express-style trips this time of year. I know many families who enjoy these exciting excursions as a yearly tradition. But for our family of five, the related cost is usually not something we’re comfortable spending in an already financially-draining month. So a few years back we came up with our own version – the Minivan Express!
One of our favorite Christmastime traditions is driving around town looking at Christmas lights. I thought this year we’d spice things up a bit and have fun with a Christmas Lights Scavenger Hunt.
I have a son who is a portrait of kindness and sensitivity. He doesn’t really like sports or getting too dirty. He usually prefers pretend play with dolls instead of superheroes. He can be very particular about his clothes. This year for Christmas, he’s asked for a dollhouse.
Every year, our family looks forward to counting down the days to Christmas with a family activity advent calendar. Instead of uncovering candy or trinkets each day, we find a new activity or outing related to the season. I love that this gives us a way to celebrate and make memories together all December long. I also cleverly sneak in some Christmas to-do’s here and there to satisfy my need to multitask.
